Bullet points on LinkedIn, Facebook and WhatsApp

Most social apps have no list button, but they all accept Unicode bullets. WhatsApp is the exception: it now has its own list formatting.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn posts, comments, the About section and job descriptions on your profile have no bullet tool. Paste • at the start of each line instead.

Bullets make long posts much easier to skim, and the first two or three lines show before "…see more", so put your strongest line first.

Facebook

Facebook posts, comments and page descriptions also have no list button. Copy • (or ● for a bolder look) and paste it at the start of each line.

WhatsApp: built-in lists

WhatsApp added text formatting for lists in 2024. Start a line with - or * followed by a space to make a bulleted list, or 1. and a space for a numbered list. The app shows them as a proper list.

On older app versions, or if you want a different look, simply paste • or another dot at the start of each line. That works in every version.

Nested points

None of these apps support real indentation, but you can fake it: start a sub-point with a few spaces and a hollow bullet ◦. Our bullet list maker does this for you when you indent a line.

Questions

Does LinkedIn remove bullet points?

No. • is plain text, so LinkedIn keeps it. If the formatting looks off, check for extra spaces before the bullet.

How do I make a list in WhatsApp?

Type - or * followed by a space at the start of a line. For numbers, type 1. and a space. You can also paste • manually.

Can I use emoji as bullets?

Yes. ✅, 🔹, 🔴 and 🟢 are popular. They are colorful, but keep it to one or two styles so the post stays readable.
